Washi is traditional Japanese paper, tougher than ordinary paper made from wood pulp, but still light and delicate
We took it as inspiration for this collection, which is based on a simple structural system made of two sheets cut to shape, fitted into a slightly tapering cross. This becomes a structurally sound base connected through dry joints to the top bent sheet that becomes the seat.
A stool, a podium, a side table to hold small objects, depending on height.
Or your whims.
To complete the family, a bench to hold books, where the structural crosses have gone higher and the bent seat is fitted into them, by geometry. The two crosses become bookend, or a simple reminder of how something feeble and delicate like a sheet can become strong if folded or used wisely.
